Not the best Directors Cut
Verified purchase
First things first..This is a good sequel to Pitch Black..But I was expecting more with the Directors Cut (one star taken away). The extra 15mins? that you do get are minimal and you can see why they were not used in the theatrical version (blink and you would miss them - one star taken away) . The only interesting extra part was the introduction to Riddick and his peoples past (which should have been longer ) Apart from that i would have been happy with the one disc version. But the price is the clincher and i could not say no.

Story - Following up from Pitch Black,Vin da man returns to confront the Necromonger, an amalgamated race of planet gobbling bad dudes who are posessed and led by their 'Dear Leader', no not Kim Jong-il, but probably not to far off, the Lord Marshal, who obviously had a bad near death experience on his last holiday vacation, probably Benidorm! Before Riddick meets the space trotting army of doom, with the bad attitude Lordie at the Helm (parents obviously did bring him up properly), Mr Vin has to escape a few situations of his own, from being frozen to part boiled on the way. Lots of action to keep you entertained from start to finish and for a couple of quid you can't go wrong. Some hard-core officianados, may play this down this after Pitch Black, but I liked it for its for its effects, expansion of the 'Riddick' universe and all-round entertainment, after all thats all a film needs to do, is to let you escape for a couple of hours.

Much better than the cinema release!

Didn't like the cinema release of this film. So when I saw the directors cut off this film on dvd and liked it. I decided to buy the HD-DVD directors cut of this film since it was cheaper than the BLU RAY. Now the directors cut is much longer than the cinema version and much better!! It's almost like watching a new film, there are so many new clips. The directors cut explains more about Riddicks race and his home planet Furya. Now the picture is very sharpe, and you can see much more detail, you watch in amazement to how good everyones skin looks in the film. The sound is also excellent. Good HD-DVD.

Just like the others in the trilogy. predictable with questionable, and at times lazy, writing.
But if you liked pitch black you'll like this. it's definitely an acquired taste.

Good action scenes

Not as good as Pitch Black. Pretty silly plot although the action scenes are very good. Even though the plot is ridiculous, Riddick is still a great character and therefore makes the movie very watchable
