Last Christmas I decided to check out a number of Christmas films I had not seen before and this was one of the selection of films I chose. Having read Skipping Christmas by John Grisham which I really enjoyed I was concerned how the film adaptation would work out but having seen that the cast seemed like they would work in this style of film I was hopeful it would be good. For me this film is OK but doesn't live up to the book and isn't a film I'd consider a classic that will be in my Christmas films selection moving forward.

One of the best Christmas movies

I'm not sure why this movie was critically panned. Sure, it's not a masterpeice of cinema, but what Christmas movie is? It's pretty funny: in the lighthearted family-friendly way you'd expect, fairly warming and has a decent cast. For me, this movie is up there with 'Jingle all the Way' and 'The Santa Clause'. I mean, come on- it's got Tim Allen and Dan Akroyd!

Stressful!

Two stars for the good acting. None for the comedy. It was dreadful. Too far-fetched. Neighbours' behaviour ridiculous. We cringed all the way through the 50 minutes we watched it. Finally all agreed to ditch it. Couldn't bear another thing going wrong. So stressful! Spoiled a Christmas evening to be honest. Big shame.

A fun family-friendly Christmas film...

..not as brilliantly side-achingly funny as National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, but still a good one to add to the annual holiday viewing pile. Closer to home, also try: "The Goes Wrong Show" series of 2019/20 BBC skits and the impossible to find Peter Pan Goes Wrong.

To me, very funny

Has to be one of my top 10 comedies. Great casting and directing. I think it was based on a short story by John Grisham called Skipping Christmas (apologies if I've got any of that wrong off the top of my head but it's been a while since I read it - read that too if you can)

Mediocre but worth it for the discounted price
Verified purchase
Got this at a discounted price so it was only about 2 quid. That's about what it's worth considering the scope -- higher budget than a lifetime movie but much less charm than something like Home Alone. A servicable xmas movie you can stick on in the background while making Christmas lunch or put on to entertain your young teens -- probably not really suitable for younger kids and not nearly interesting enough for adults

Really Funny! A Christmas Family Favourite Movie!
Verified purchase
It was SO funny, my whole family really enjoyed it. Jamie Lee Curtis is so talented, she is able to convincingly make a comedy like this, and then go on to, just as convincingly, make a really scary horror movie like Halloween! Brilliant 😃
