Meaningless Gorefest
Essentially the same template one episode to the next following the same arc except with a few differing minor detail that predictably ends in the same outcome of death, blood & guts, talentless writing for a quick buck, a wasted opportunity to create something better rather than this slop.

No spoilers: That was Diabolical in the best way possible. Definitely not for young ones!
Quick verdict: Get this watched! Just under 2 hours for the entire season.

First thoughts:
Pros
Fresh stories in the same universe as The Boys.
Mixture of new character episodes and some with characters from The Boys.
A selection of animated stories from multiple directors and writers.
Differing animation styles from Toons styling to anime.
Quick to consume and kept me wanting more for the most part.

Cons
Some episodes have better pacing than others but the quality is still high.

If you can remember such ventures as The Animatrix or more recently SW Visions then this will give you an idea of how this series of animated stories has been constructed.
Some episodes are fully voice acted while the first episode is accented by music and doesn’t have dialogue (in the manner of Tom and Jerry or Roadrunner).
Episode 1 sets the scene by showing you a world in which Vought has an adoption division with less than moral practices, and sees our employee protagonist getting attached to one of the babies. This runs in a very family friendly manner for a while and then POW! Blood, bones and bowels all over the place, so another reminder that despite how it looks on the surface, this is very much an animated series for adults.

Details and things to note:
8x animated episodes ranging from 14-15 minutes in length so it’s easily bingeable.
6x episodes with an age 15 rating and 2x age rated 18.
Content advisory for Nudity, sexual content, violence foul language, substance abuse and… Smoking (rolls eyes), this is definitely not for children so that last one still confuses me. I guess this has to be included for any episodes rated 15..

Final thoughts:
A great standalone series of episodes as a nice appetiser before The Boys Season 3 starts.
I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend getting them watched before there’s too many full spoiler reviews giving away all of the details.
It may not have the depth of Invincible but wow this is fun, imaginative, beautifully animated and easy to just pop one on when you have a few minutes to relax, or binge the whole lot in an evening.
If you know nothing of the comics, then this does a good job at showing some of the original character designs and expands the world of The Boys beyond what you’ve seen in the TV show so far.
Thanks for reading the review and I hope you found it helpful. Enjoy!

Every episode except awkwafinas is worth a watch
I feel like this show would have gotten 5 stars without that one episode akwafina wrote, the character sky herself was pretty interesting (she can give life to her own, chocolate ;)) but the writing casting story all left me going meh bleh, where as the other 7 episodes were brilliant it's an anthology mini series each episode sort of has different animation and focuses on different people either getting powers learning how to control them or surviving with them, it's quality and definitely has left me wanting more The Boys can't wait for season 3 👌 also love how in the Billy butcher episode they had wee hughie back to how he is in the comics as in the show hughie is an American comic geek where as in the comics she's a little bald ginger Scottish man, I like both versions more or less equally but it's nice seeing them not ignoring comics completely (p.s go read the 1 star reviews too they're actually funny how offended people seem to be over this and the show)

Watch Episode 3 & 8, skip the rest. No spoiler review.
Here was a wasted opportunity.

If every episode was like episode 3 & 8 it'd be a 5 star review. However, it's a collection of largely unrelated stories that all seem to rely on extreme gore as the punchline. Only the aforementioned episodes are worth watching since they relate directly to the main live action series. The rest are just loosely connected because they include Vought and super-powers.

The unworthy episodes run the unimaginative gamut from "What if Looney Toons, but extreme gore" to "What if Anime, but with zero writing skill" and "What if Rick & Morty, but unfunny". There are others but they're not worth listing.

The mixture of animation styles was an interesting idea. Unfortunately most of the stories bore for their short runtime making the various animators work a waste of their talents and the viewers time.

Next time, instead of funding vanity fan scripts by celebrities get proper writers for every episode.

Couple of decent episodes, otherwise trash.
While I liked the animation style of several episodes (3, 7, 8) and got a chuckle out of at least a oouple of the gags. This show just feels like a lazy stalling attempt to fill the gap between S2 and S3 of the main show. The first two leave a bitter taste in my mouth in particular as they just flat out steal art styles from better and older shows, Looney Tunes and Rick & Morty in particular while delivering none of the quality. Hearing Justin Roiland in the latter made me smile, but otherwise they just felt like a complete waste of time.

Episodes 3 and 8 are the closest we get to what the show should have been. The art style is great and they set up events quite well for what we know about the cast of the actual show. Too bad they ultimately didn't add a whole lot to the plot that we didn't already know, but good effort and solid animation nonetheless.

Episode 7 was animated well and presented a story that at least tries to do something with the setting. It comes across as pretty wholesome at times and has a bittersweet ending to it. Unfortunately it suffers from the same issue of not adding anything to the setting, but it's still a solid watch.

The rest are so atrociously bad that I struggle to even consider describing them. Episodes 4, 5 and 6 were just awful people doing awful things for the sake of being awful which is part of The Boys' overall appeal but lacks any and all of the nuanced writing and likeable cast to even come close to carrying a shred of these episodes' content.

Overall a disappointment with a few decent moments sprinkled in. Watch if you're bored but don't go expecting much.
