Starkey lives in a traditional, quiet seaside town where nothing seems to inspire him except for bowls. However, in-spite of his talent for the game, his working-class upbringing does not go down well with the middle-class members of the bowling club, even when he becomes the regional champion.

loved it, just don't take it any more seriously than it's meant to be taken

As a parody of the sports underdog beats the odds genre its great. Its light hearted good fun and the pace never lets up so its a good bit of entertainment.

Would be 4**, but the 4:3 aspect ratio is poor.

I loved this film when it was released. But it hasn't aged well.
Also the film is supplied in 4:3 aspect ratio, which spoils the view somewhat.

Bought this as a Christmas present for the father in law as he is a keen bowler, and its really unusual to find any films about green bowls, however it was just as well we watched it first as there is quite a bit of swearing and although we found it funny we felt it a bit too near the mark for an older generation player. A typical uk made film funny in parts and a great watch for a younger player but don't buy for the more senior generation unless they have a wicked sense of humour.

Great film....I get the impression that the people involved really enjoyed making the film. The Chairman of the bowls council was brilliant.

You don't need to be a bowls player to watch this but it helps!

Okay, there is some bad language but not more than most so the 'older generation' won't be put out! We can take it! It just goes to show that even the 'old man's game' can make people passionate about the game and that's what this movie is about.

Who would have thought a film about bowls could be so funny

A friend recommended and I finally watched it. Really funny film with some great lines. It's all as predictable as you would expect but it's such good fun who cares. Well worth watching. Language is a bit rich but good entertainment
