As an admittedly Jazz neophyte I need films like this to educate me. Bill Evan's life is, unfortunately, interestingly tragic anyway so someone like me can follow the film on that basis while also finding about the music and the players on the way.

I came to this documentary because I knew he had played with Miles Davis and was well respected elsewhere but didn't know about his life or music. Now I know about both and also have an insight into his own music in bands, his trio and solo. Unfortunately, because I found all the music played just about brilliant I don't know where to start listening. Perhaps, 'Waltz For Debby' or 'Live At The Village Vanguard' or any of the many others?

This is a really good, well thought out, excellently paced and, despite the tragedies and the drugs (itself a tragedy), a a non-sensationalised account of a life in music that has just enough music information that it doesn't alienate non-purists like me.

This is too important to be missed if you're interested in music. Forget the genres you're into. This is the universe of music, where it all comes together for you to see. Sure, it's all in the music, but it's good to see something of the musician's life if treated in the right way. This is the right way...

Very insightful documentary about an iconic pianist

I've loved Bill Evans for many years but I knew very little about him besides the drug addiction and untimely death because of it. This opened up on that as well as his burgeoning early career. Highly recommended for fans of his music or jazz in general.

If I made any disparaging comments in my previous review I apologise. I had expected it to come in the form of a DVD.
I will now change my review to EXCELLENT
