Mr Freeze

Batman and Robin and Batgirl take on Mr Freeze who is still looking for a cure for his wife and thinks he has found it when he sees that Barbara Gordon shares the same rare blood type as his wife. Originally released 1 year after the live action Batman And Robin movie which featured Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr Freeze, this animated spin off of the classic 90's Batman The Animated Series is everything that that live action 1997 disasterpiece should have been and is far superior despite only being just over an hour long. The voice cast of The Batman Animated Series including Kevin Conroy as Batman all return and it does feel like a feature length episode of the Batman Animated Series and one of the all time great animated DC movies.

This is basically an extended retelling of the animated series episode 'heart of ice' and as such it suffers in comparison to such a brilliant piece of television.
However seeing the animated series crew have a chance to make an animated movie is in itself a good thing. all of the amazing animation and artwork is there along with the atmosphere of the series. It is just a pity that the story is not quite as good as it could be.
All of the voice acting is again excellent with Kevin Conroy again providing the best Batman voice i have heard for the charactor, and Mr Freeze is given enough moments of pathos to make him a truly tragic figure.
The action is as ever flawless with a fluidity and impact that is often missing from animated features.
All in all i would recommend this to a serious fan of the batman, but it is not a patch on the original series.

Short But Great

Sadly not a crossover with the Mortal Kombat character but a spin off movie from the nineties TV series. Freeze needs a rare blood type to cure his wife and the only match in Gotham is Barbara Gordon aka Batgirl! The film is very well made with the usual high quality animation you would expect from the 90s series with the benefit of some early CGI implemented that has aged surprisingly well due to being used cleverly. Now Freeze has two polar bear henchmen. They’re literally just two trained polar bears but honestly it works really well, they’re cool, badass and genuinely intimidating. The biggest flaw of this film sadly is that there is very little plot so even at an hour runtime it feels too long. That’s a shame as it is purely the only flaw in a excellent movie and Essential Viewing for Bat Fans and recommended for newbs.

As a conesuer of quality Batman stories (see my other reviews!) I liked this one. Not quite as good as 'Mask of the Phantasm' but that's pretty stiff opposition!

The story is excellent, it's well animated in true Batman Neo-forties-Gothic and the voices are superb as they always are in these animations.

Get this one, Bat-fans, and you won't be dissapointed!

A good but not great Batman film

The DVD arrived in good time and came packed with extras. Delighted! But this film unfortunately can’t hold a candle to Mask of the Phantasm’s masterpiece
