The Dark Knight returns as an old man, what's not to love. I own the graphic novels and I was shocked when I first watched this. How the feel and art work of the novel was kept alive in this production.
The voice acting is spot on. Michael Emerson (the joker) and Peter Weller (batman) among others are all brilliant.
If you love Batman, if you loved the graphic novels then please watch.

Ignore the diabolically bad cover art, that does the contents of this DVD a great disfavour, push on and insert disc into player.

Since Batman the animated series Bruce Timm has proved that there is absolutely no need to rewrite Batman so that you can say I did that.

Each frame is a work of love and respect for the original source material. Everything is left intact, so what makes Batman well, Batman, is here.

DC live adaptations get it all so wrong with the rewriting of characters, and the fact that if the film has in it's title the word Batman, then it is Batman that the public have come to see, in costume and not Bruce Wayne gazing at his navel before the pritty face of the movie finds out he is the Caped Crusader.. Here a comic book has come to life with all the respect for how the BTDKR original graphic novel was so ground breaking. With art work that enhanced the story telling.

A faithful and respectful animated feature that stands up to repeated viewing.

Just a note buy part two at the same time because after viewing this you'll want to get straight to it.

An ageing bruce wayne is depicted here as a psychologically damaged long term victim of urbab life. Hes old cynical and totally without purpose unless hes in the cape and cowl or in the cave. His need to be the batman is pathological. In his old age he has begun to hallucinate a giant vampire bat that wont ket him rest, pushes him to keep going. Batman is as crazy as the villians he fights as is reinforced by the brillieant news items and discussiin oanel shows. Feels very authentic, like a parable about the inherent damaging nature of modern urbam life

Classic comic given a brilliant adaptation.

I am sure that now Batman is facing off against Superman in Hollywood, there will be a resurgence of interest in the story that rebranded Batman as a viable mature dramatic character in 1986.
Suffice to say that a well made, well acted, faithful animated version of this all-time classic comic series, is an absolute joy to experience on every level.
The new movie may, or may not be, any good (opinion seems divided), but The Dark Knight Returns is a superb amazon prime rental, or purchase in any medium.

I'm a big fan of the original THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS by FRANK MILLER and read it as a child, this animated movie adaption is the first part of the story and its truly stunning. ROBOCOP star himself PETER WELLER plays the role of BATMAN and BRUCE WAYNE. The animation and art while not to the gorgeous level of the original classic is very nicely done and in some ways reflects Miller's original art while not copying it. This has some very brutal fight scenes which are animated and directed fantastically and the soundtrack is also brilliant. This is a must watch for any animation fan and for all BATMAN followers! It's excellent.

Thought I'd give this a go after watching Son of Batman. At first I wasn't really digging the animation, reminded me of Batman Brave and the Bold which I don't care for much. However the story is good and as it went on I got into it more
