This Moon ain't so bad

Okay, this movie has had it's fair share knocks and bad reviews. I admit it's not the best werewolf movie in the world, but it's certainly not the worst (Just take a look at some of those HOWLING sequels). Director Eric Red has had a great genre career, what with screenwriting such 80s gems as THE HITCHER and NEAR DARK and directing the underrated BODY PARTS, he knows how to craft a decent horror movie. This movie however, suffers from what seems to be a low budget and quite surprisingly from Eric Red, an underwritten script.

Lead actors Mariel Hemingway and Michael Pare equip themselves fine with the stilted dialogue and try to bring the movie out of the B movie realm. Jan Kiessers' cinematography is atmospheric and Steve Johnson's animatronic werewolf suit is great (it's just a pity the rushed CGI doesn't come up to scratch - the painful scene where Pare transforms into the creature using CGI is terrible and quite frankly, needed to be cut from the film, especially when the non-digital work in the movie is largely excellent).

Warner Bros. dumped this movie straight to tape in the UK, and we never got the chance to see the movie at the theatres. Now, with DVD I can view the movie as it was meant to be seen. It benefits greatly from the digital format, what with a bright sharp picture (highlighting that cool, autumnal look of the cinematography) and the chance to see Steve Johnson's great creature effects. Reviewers moaned about this movie when it came out, and to a point I can see why, but when other dull "horror" movies like 'Cabin Fever' and the latest 'Saw' rip-off are released at the cinema, this low-budget flick doesn't seem so bad after all. Granted, it's not a great film by any means, but it's not a bad one either . . . I look forward to whatever Eric Red puts out in the future, at least his horror heart is in the right place. Recommended.

Love this film

I have been looking for this film for ages having seen it when it first came out. One of my favourite werewolf films. Mariel Hemmingway is great in this but the absolute star is Thor the German shepherd. He is gorgeous and reminds me so much of my two I used to have. I now have to read the book Thor that this film is based on. It was a great werewolf transformation for its time and the finale is quite satisfying.

A Great werewolf horror thriller!

This movie was great! It has pretty good acting, a great story, a man who turns into a werewolf- not every full moon, but every night. And it's got lots of blood and gore! The werewolf is very well made, and looks very scary, real, and cool. And in this horror film, It's not a man or Woman Who's gotta save every-one, it's a dog called Thor (I Think?); he's the pet of the mother and her son in the movie and it's up to him save them (Not his dog family, The mother and her son) and this movie was very entertaining and scary! there's one part with CGI Which is the part of the Transformation which isn't very well made but this is a B-movie which was made at the time when real CGI was made so it's not too bad but it's weird, quick, and cool! (There's a video on youtube called "Ted's Transformation From Bad Moon" which is the scene with the CGI But it might not be on youtube anymore but if it is and you want to see that part then go on and watch it) Ooh, and This movie is my 3rd favourite movie at the moment, but it's my favourite werewolf movie ever! I Saw it years ago, so I'm so happy to have got it on DVD now!

This movie will keep you on the edge of your seat, screaming!
But in my opinion, You Should be over 14-years-old to watch this movie.
I Highly Recommended This INCREDIBLE Horror Thriller to any horror or werewolf movie fans!
This review was dictated to me by my son- enjoy!

well now i saw this film when i was living in jamaica a few years ago but recently purchased it from amazon.

now Mariel hemingway happens to be on of those actresses who is extremely talented yet barely recognised in hollywood as for micheal pare, well the man is as sexy as hell.

all in all the storyline is well done, sister helping out the brother and completly unaware that the brother is a werewolf. the film does well on being intresting and catching the viewers attention but the film it self is not that great it slows down then picks up visa versa but still does the job nevertheless. the howling is a much better horror film however if your having a night in with the girls and you want something entertaining but not really all that scary then this is the film for you.

the film does deliver and i reccomend any buyer to purchase it but dont expect to be terrified to the point where you cannot sleep cause the film itself refuses to give you that.

if you want something scary but easy going at the same time where you can acknowledge allright acting and a storyline to get into then buy every means possible go for this film.

As allways marion hemmingway gives a great performence as well as the ever sexy micheal pare and even chase gamble does well himself. at the end you can actually feel sorry for micheal pare. the is entertaining just not that much in a terrifying way nethertheless the film is watchable.

I liked the film,I found it a bit old-school,which isn't a bad thing. My favourite werewolf movie is probably Silver Bullet, the actual werewolf in this film was pretty similar. The acting wasn't bad,and the film kept my attention, so out of a lot of rubbish out there, this one wasn't bad

Based on an AMAZING book, but the film doesn't quite match up.

Ok were-movie based on a fantastic book. However I feel that if you watch this without reading the book you might enjoy it more as you wont be aware of the changes they made from the plot of the book. On the flip side it was fun to note the changes from the book, the film lacks intensity, but doesnt fall short of cheese.

A German Shepherd Dog versus a werewolf. What’s not to love!

Fantastic film. The star is a marvellous German Shepherd Dog called Thor who really steals the show. One of the better werewolf films. Recommended
