Bad Land: Road to Fury

An intoxicating post-apocalyptic thriller set in a future where water is scarce, a farmer defends his land and hopes to rejuvenate his parched soil. However, his daughter's boyfriend schemes to steal the land for himself. A powerful, gripping thriller starring Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max: Fury Road), Elle Fanning (The Beguiled) and Michael Shannon (Man of Steel). Highly recommended.

I loved it

Wasn't what I expected, the title is a bad choice.

Takes place after some kind of disaster, resulting in desertification of the land - water becoming a major commodity. As someone else says, it's a slow burn story, but it's so beautifully filmed and crafted together. You really get a feel for the bleak, dry environment and with wonderful performances by the actors - I was engrossed from beginning to end. I was left wanting for more. For me, it's a woefully underrated gem.

It's not mad max (thankfully)

Overuse of chemicals on crops combined with years of drought have decimated this community.
A stakeholder holds out as do a trickle of their neighbours as they "pray for rain".
Nicholas hoult is the bad guy bent on taking the "good but dry" land off him

Having lost their mile to a broken leg, father & son bid on a robotic load carrying "mule" in order to carry on taking supplies to workers up beyond the road in the rugged hills who are diverting water pipes, his hope being that's can wear them down to Robertson's water to his land...

A good film, clearly made on the cheap (but also made well) the title is extremely misleading, this isn't a "road warrior" movie.

An excellent, deep film.

Don’t let the Mad Max- esque title put you off; this is not a cheap rip-off in any way. The title does it a disservice, to be honest. This is an epic film about humanity, vengeance and family. Very well-acted and a great story, highly recommended for anyone who enjoys their post-apocalyptic fiction.

'THE 'RAINS' WILL RETURN'
Verified purchase
In the not too distant future a long-term drought has laid much of the lands to waste, water is a precious commodity
that man will kill for.
Though many have left the area 'Ernest' (Michael Shannon) a small holdings owner lives on his farm with daughter
'Mary' (Elle Fanning) and son 'Jerome' (Kodi Smit-McPhee) believing the rains will return and his lands will rejuvanate.
He defends his lands against intruders, though the greatest danger to him is in fact his daughters boyfriend 'Flem Lever'
who has designs on ''Ernest's' land, and will do anything to get his hands on it.
'Ernest' doesn't trust 'Flem' and try's to drive a wedge between him and his daughter though she is determined not to listen
to the sound advice given, though in time 'Flem; will get what he desires and indeed marry 'Mary'
However 'Jerome' has similar doubts with regards to 'Flem' as his father and will by chance uncover a brutal truth which he
will at some stage have to make a decision upon.
This is an unusual film which is played out in three parts, though it certainly has it's moments it is quite slow overall.
There are some violent sequences along the way, maybe a film to perhaps catch on a movie-channel some time rather than
buy.

Great story with straightforward cinematography and strong emotions

No spoilers here. This is a great movie made in the 1980s-minimalist style with just the bare scenery and a few characters to drive the plot. Like all good movies, it has a compelling story, and you wait for the moment when the shoe falls. The music is spot on and adds to the quality of the experience. Despite the story of betrayal and deception, the obvious love between the wise, tough father Ernest and his naive teenage son Jerome is remains the force that drives this movie forward and produces the strongest emotions in this movie. Well worth a watch.

Character Driven American West Story in a Pre-Apocalyptic Shell.

Great story, in 3 parts. Really smart characters, motivations and super characteristic of the western drama, but within a very realistic pre-apocalyptic near future. Not an action flick, instead there's plenty of suspense and tension.

A post apocalyptic western. Subtle character play and very good story line. Would most certainly recommend.

Wow! What a letdown! I saw this movie advertised on the YouTube channel Mystery Recapped, and I thought it looked pretty promising. I would have to buy it! So I watched this movie one late afternoon. Unfortunately, the pacing in the film was awful. I got to the 30-minute mark and had to switch it off! Due to it's no spark in interest.
