Austin Powers in Goldmember

6.21 h 34 min2002X-Ray12
The "sshhh!" hits the fan when Dr.Evil and Mini-Me escape from prison. Joining forces with the superfreaky Goldmember, they kidnap Austin's father, master spy Nigel Powers (Oscar winner Michael Caine), in a dastardly time-travel scheme to take over the world. Before you can say "Shake Your Booty," Austin cruises to 1975 and teams up with sexy Foxxy Cleopatra (Beyonce Knowles) to stop Dr. Evil.

This is disappointing overall but genuinely funny and entertaining in a couple of places, with some excellent music.
After the rave reviews, and with the all-star cast, I expected a lot better. Some bits are so predictable and unfunny I had to fast forward them. Others are just incredibly cringeworthy.
The misogyny, xenophobia and laddish nastiness on display isn't compensated for by sufficiently high quality humour. A lot of the acting is wooden and lacking in umph, even from the top names, save Michael Caine. I'm with Richard Wagner's Number Two, who spends most of the film rolling his eyes and looking bored. This, and the bits featuring Ozzie Osborne moaning that they're reusing old gags from the franchise, shows that even the film makers know the format is tired.
It'll have the frat boys choking on their after hours pizzas but I really don't see how on Earth this is worth 4.5 stars.

Oh dear lord... This film hasn't aged well.
It's utter garbage. You need to suspend your disbelief very much willingly and under duress.
It's boiled down to set pieces and vignettes in an incoherent mess.

Just one of those you should have seen. Bought as neither my mother or teenager had ever seen any Austin Powers and both giggled through.
