Apollo 18

 (732)
5.21 h 26 min2011X-Ray15
Officially, Apollo 17 was the last manned mission to the moon. But a year later, in December of 1973, two American astronauts were sent on a secret mission to the moon funded by the US Department of Defense. What you are about to see is the footage which the astronauts captured on that mission. While NASA denies its authenticity, others say it’s the real reason we’ve never gone back to the moon.

Superior found footage movie
Verified purchase
This is an excellent found footage movie, kind of linear and predictable but still well worth a watch and superior to a lot of movies of its kind. Also good to see it changed up a bit from the usual zombis monster horror or cult survival horror style presentation.

Despite what I have said about the more than slightly predictable plot it is interesting and corresponds to some cool fantasy story explanations as to why there have not been further missions to the moon. Also some pretty odd creatures too but the horror is as much provided by unsurvivable atmosphere of space with themes of being marooned or abandoned to the fore front too.

Liked this movie, even if it could have been an extended episode of the Twilight Zone or Outer Limits. The camera work etc. is good. Recommended.

The Mission did not fail

When I sat to watch this for the first time, I had no idea what to expect. To be honest I didn't know it was a horror film. I guess a closer look at the front cover would give that away.
I love how the movie is presented as lost film from the NASA archives. So although most of the feature is only in 4:3 instead of 16:9 (some shots do fill the 16:9 frame) I feel it really adds to the vibe of the movie. Some shots do show off the HD but don't expect this to be a reference movie regarding picture.

Spoiler alert:
Set at the end of the Apollo Mission era we find that the scrapped Apollo 18 mission did go up and did reach the moon. Strange things start to happen but are put down to the distance the 3 Astronauts are from the earth.

Then on a space walk one of the Astronauts see's another landed space craft. This is where things really start to go wrong.

The sound is really well done for this Blu-Ray and the detail put into making the picture look old and damaged in places is perfect. Though it's a modern film Apollo 18 would suite any classic Horror film fan.

Not too bad.

I heard some mixed reviews about this, but it was really cheap on Blu-ray and I couldn't argue with the price.

It was very nice horror film. Some brilliant jumps and scares. But it wasn't anything extraordinary.

My mom who rarely ever watches horror films watched it with me, thinking it was a normal documentary and didn't think it was going to be a horror film. :D haha

Lets just say I don't think she'll trust me with movies in the future. It scared the life out of her!

Some jumps in this were surprisingly very unsuspected. It caught me out a good few times.

The storyline is original but I won't say anymore in case I spoil anything.

The movie is good wee jumper but nothing more. I enjoyed the film and I know it will be great for when I have my friends over.

Not bad overall

Not a bad overall. There is something about horror in space that amazes me... as it's a complete unknown. It was a good watch overall. Would I watch it again? Probably not but I have passed it on to friends who have enjoyed it too.

I liked it!

For all the people criticizing it, I don't see why. I liked it personally, and even though they could of done so much more with the storyline than literally alien bugs it was still a decent film that was historically accurate to some degree and was filmed like it really happened, with a camera from that time. The actor I think was great and their reactions were realistic, however the special effects on the aliens could of been more creative. Other than that, if you like sci-fi which is cheap but interesting, buy this.

A good movie for conspiracy theorists. Well acted and plausible. Love the rock monsters! I'll never look at my garden rocks the same way ever again!
