One of those big budget films where most of the money goes on special effects. Ok quite an interesting idea but the dialogue rarely goes beyond the minimal : 'are you Okay? Yes I'm fine.' 'what happened then? I don't really know.'
Natalie Portman keeps the same basic expression throughout; one of fear and more fear. It's a shame this shares so many tropes with Rambo, i.e. when in danger, blast away with a semi automatic. Perhaps we have become too familiar with cgi.
Relationships between people are always more frightening but these were not given time to develop.
It's difficult to fathom the purpose of the film. What are we supposed to think? It was isolated from the real world to the point of insignificance.

Region specification was missing on the ordering website

I could not view the DVD because it was Region 1. This information (Region 1) was not mentioned anywhere on the side when I made the purchase. Because the site is based in the UK, I did not even suspect it might be Region 1.

A surprising & pleasantly challenging film

This film has an intriguing storyline, told in an engaging and unpredictable way. It dragged at some points, but not enough to affect the overall narrative.
It was great to see a film where the lead characters are all women, all believable and all with challenging aspects to the performance.

I really original film.

Nothing formulaic about this one, I found it full of creative and novel ideas. I started reading/watching sci-fi in my teens, cutting my teeth on 2001 A Space Odyssey, but over the years the genre has become crowded with less than inspiring films. For me this one was a refreshing return to the calibre of greats.

Dull and implausible

Ex Machina is one of my favourite sci-fi films, so I watched this on the back of that. I needn't have bothered. Everything that was good about that film was lacking here - tight script, intelligence, suspense.
