Every Disney fan should own this.

This pictorial story of Walt Disney could have been just a succession of still images, with a narrator and "talking heads" telling the story. Instead, we get a fantastic collection of film clips which tell their own story. To be sure, there is a narrator and "talking heads" (friends, animators, historians, writers etc.), but so great is their enthusiasm that the story really buzzes along. You get the whole story, warts and all, from Walt as a young entrepreneur to his death in 1966. Especially interesting, for me, were the aerial shots of the construction of Disneyland, from rough field to the opening day. Walt never lived , of course , to see the opening of EPCOT , his last big dream.

A fascinating introduction to Whitman
Verified purchase
I bought a bulky Modern Library copy of "Leaves of Grass" when I was in the throes of adolescent anguish... it fully lived up to Robert Louis Stevenson's opinion of it as a sure-fire remedy for greensickness. Whitman was one of the most powerful of the prophets that ushered in the modern era... like Arthur Rimbaud in France, he wrote to change the world... but in stark conrast to Rimbaud, WITH ENTHUSIASM FOR LIFE AS IT IS, and in a manner accessible to all. Especially, he wrote to enable the USA avoid the Civil War. Although he failed in that, as all prophets fail, he did leave us with a song that fires us with hope for the future in a time when hope seems to be fraying at the edges.

This documentary covers his life and spirit honestly, and also adequately (which, for such a huge rambunctious figure, is saying a whole lot!). The spirit of the times and the spirit of the poet coalesce in an exciting and inspiring portrait. There are numerous citations, pictures, testimonies, opinions of folk that have been touched and uplifted by this most unconventional of poets - the documentary seems to be saying Whitman's life is his message, and "leaves of Grass" is its wholly adequate precipitation.

I can think of no better, or more satisfying introduction to Whitman.

For entrepreneurs - fantastic detail of Disney's struggle of his purpose
The beautiful facts and story telling of this documentary made it like a movie. What a fantastic journey into Walt Disney's life and the amazing things he got up to that I had no idea about. As an entrepreneur, it was a particularly useful way for me to consider my journey ahead. It helped me thing, what do I want my legacy to be, something Disney seemed to struggle with, maybe it will help me develop my goals early on. Thanks for making this doc.

A well done documentary
Fabulous documentary about a facinating man who created an empire. It is factual with no schmolz as you'd expect, I particularly loved the interviews with his staff back when he ran his own studio. It takes you back in time to when Hollywood produced something worth watching.
