The Art Of silent communication, Energy-wise.

An enjoyable Sunday evening escape to Hawaii which certainly warmed a chilly Father's Day in old Blighty. Bill Murray is his usual highly-entertaining self, without upstaging or stealing any thunder from the Young Americans, while Emma Stone is a de-LA-LA-lightful match for blue-eyed Bradley who scoops up all the goodies on offer, and then some.

A few years have passed since this film was made and the wealth gap between the billionaires and the rest of us has grown significantly, so the message of this story is more poignant than ever: the super-rich must be careful what they spend their vast fortunes on lest the rest of us are swept away by the typhoons of their careless purchases, blown away by the hurricanes of their egomanias, or turned to stone from the volcanic ash of a distressed mother Earth, while they themselves jet off to their play stations + space stations. That said, I'm confident they'll help the rest of us clean up and stabilize the planet, so no real worries there.

Aloha, Louise! Hope you're well; it's been way Tao long... must dash, the meter's running... x

Hawaiian mini break offers light relief
Verified purchase
Overlooking the fact that Emma Stones's part should have been played by someone with Hawaiian lineage, this is a great little movie.
It's how classic romantic comedies used to be made (in the 80s Tom Hanks would have nabbed Bradley Coopers part) well acted, nice little plot, subtle interplay between the two male characters, stunningly beautiful scenery, and, refreshing nowadays, an absence of gore, violence and the obligatory psychopath.
In an era when Hollywood churns out movies half shot in the dark weekly and directors think all we want to do is play guess who the nutter is, this movie provides, literally, some light relief.. a sun soaked uplifting mini break to Hawaii.

no real plot, boring and is not one laugh - how is this a comedy? Disappointing

I love Bradley cooper but this was dire. I got fed up half way through, the story is confusing and lacks any depth. I don't understand were the comedy was? Not one laugh - it just isn't funny. The 'romance' is so unlikely they were only together a few days??? none of it makes sense and waste of time. Such as shame as I love Cooper and Stone but I don't understand why they said yes to this. Massive flop

Underrated and thoughtful

There is a lot going on in this movie as it sensitively portrays some complex issues in a low-key way. It contains a lot more than the usual rom-com. Relationships between men and women, military power struggles and the pitfalls of state amd private partnerships are explored. There's also the sensitive and interesting strain throughout of Hawaiian culture which is the framework of the whole movie in many ways. Bradley Cooper and all the main players use great acting skills to quietly convey a lot with gestures and looks which give it a very satisfying vibe throughout.

I kept watching to see when this film would really get good, but it didn't!

It was not what I expected from the description of the film. Some good actors in it, but honestly it was just a waste of an hour and a half. There were a couple of interesting bits in it but I wish I'd not bothered in all honesty. It was hard to follow what was going on a lot of the time and I expected more. It had the potential to be a great film, but was seriously lacking substance for us.

3 stars but an extra star for Hawaii and Emma Stone

Very lighthearted comedy against the beautiful backdrop of Hawaii, mainstays Bradley Cooper and Emma Stone in their element in this fluffy romance. I was more taking in by the scenery to be honest.
