I thought this was great and even better than season one! I loved how it stuck to the core elements of the Eagle Strike book whilst also mixing it up to make it fresh - it was very enjoyable and the cast is amazing! Looking forward to Season 3!

1.0 out of 5 stars Prime content with adverts?
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 December 2021
I pay subscriptions to streaming services because I don't want 3-4 minute advert breaks, every 20 minutes.
I enjoyed the first season, but I won't bother watching beyond the first 20 minutes of season 2. If Amazon decides this is the way to go, I'll be cancelling and keeping the subs that don't force me to twiddle my fingers while I'm persuaded to make purchases.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, Epic, Great Fun! Shows how a solid cast can excel with the right story!

Well, here we are again. An Alex Rider series. But season 2.
Sometimes shows fall short in season 2, but this is quite the opposite.
It's another electrifying spy adventure, with the great cast again. The villains are epic and mysterious, which works well with the awesome hero's of the series. It's like Yin and Yang, perfectly poised together.
Otto Farrant does another amazing job of bringing Alex Rider to life and the rest of the cast help the story progress incredibly well. We find out more information about the mysterious Scorpia and Thomas Levin perfectly captures the confident and mysterious Scorpia assassin.
This series pays tribute to the Alex Rider books and it brings those stories to life, but in a new way in order to continue to surprise and thrill the audience.
This series has done an epic job so far and I can't wait to see where the story goes next!

5.0 out of 5 stars Its Brilliant!!

Well i thought season 1 was good but this was miles better. 2 slightly slow episodes to start but then full on adventure. Well done to all concerned, cast, crew everyone and to do this stylish, slick production during a pandemic, well you should get awards.
I've read some of the so called tv critics and they're synopsis is poor, this is a brilliantly written and performed action thriller and not great for anyone with a bit of blood pressure, its edge of the seat stuff and in my eyes better written and acted than 007. BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!

S2 of Alex Rider is everything I hoped for it to be and more! It managed to stay true to the main plot lines from the 4th book (Eagle Strike), whilst also having its own fresh take 😎. The acting, filming and special effects were fantastic and that S2 ending already has me begging for a S3!

Like S1, the show cleverly changed outdated concepts to match the current times, e.g. like the change of Feathered Serpent 2 from an PS2 exclusive to an actual gaming app (and then VR).

*spoilers ahead* the new characters for this season, like Kyra and Willby from S1, were great additions to the show. Smoking Mirror allowed there to be more tension between Alex and The Department when he finally catches up with them and it leads to one of my favourite scenes from the whole season, the confrontation between Alex and Yassen in the abandoned warehouse (but to be honest, all Alex-Yassen complexions were really good 😅). The new CIA director placed unwanted pressure on Blunt and unhinged him (in a way). Jack sacrificed her new job and a possible relationship to have Alex's (and Tom and Kyras) back(s) when he(they) most needed it. Back to Yassen, he could potentially be still alive!? This would be a different turn from the books!!!
(I'm guessing he escaped but he bled to death...?)

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyed the second season!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 December 2021
As a lover of the books growing up, I'm enjoying the differences and the creative choices they have made with the tv show. Unlike the movie, which had too much of a childish, slapstick comic vibe I did not rate, this adaptation has the balance pretty much right. Solid serious drama with layers of humor and character. There are still a few over dramatised childish moments "look what I can do" moments, a few cringey lines that seem to pitch to a children's audience, but its all forgiven as the majority of the show is very good indeed. Will be waiting for a series three, assumedly based on Scopia, as so far we have had point-blank and now eagle strike. My favourite character in Alex rider has always been the mysterious Yassen, and we seem to have a good focus on him in the adaptation, which is, I will admit, a very happy surprise. Would recommend as easy enjoyable watching!

2.0 out of 5 stars Pretty much a let-down
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 December 2021
When this series first began, I was very excited to see some of my favourite childhood books be brought to life. Eagle Strike was easily one of the best of Anthony Horowitz's acclaimed novels. And (once you get over the annihilation of Smithers' character) Series 1 was a satisfying, if a little tame, adaptation that remained faithful to the source material while managing to expand upon the world in interesting ways.

You can imagine my disappointment when Series 2 fell short in just about every way possible!

Let's start with Amazon Prime. Nobody likes watching adverts, but they're a necessary nuisance if you want to watch free content. But we already pay a monthly subscription to access their content. Fair enough, we have to pay extra for content that aren't included in that package. But having to pay the monthly subscription AND sit through adverts in the included content?? That's just cheeky, and no other streaming service does this.

Now onto the content itself. Spoiler warning.

Adapting from source material must be challenging, particularly if you're on a small-screen budget. But, somehow, in 8 hours of runtime, Guy Burt managed to miss out ALL of the memorable scenes from the book, including the bullfight, the live videogame and the bicycle chase. A bit like Peter Jackson missing out Moria, Helm's Deep and throwing the ring into the volcano. The OTT, Bondish moments, such as a man drowning in a room full of money, is what gave the books their pulse-racing excitement and imagination. But instead, the bloated runtime was dedicated to probably the blandest, most boring side-plots ever committed to television: highlights including Jack Starbright's bizarre law career (?), a random hacker storyline that goes nowhere, a second random hacker storyline from the Point Blanc girl, who is so forgettable that after sixteen hours I can't remember her name, more general hacking and, I'm not even kidding, about five of Alex's drama lessons, where he bumbles his way through Shakespeare. They might have stuck the landing with the climactic ending, if the expert, highly-skilled assassin hadn't have been easily fooled by a child smashing a plate, and being shot in collateral damage, rather than doing anything remotely interesting with his and Cray's power relationship, something that was even set up in the very same episode. And, call me crazy, but the whole scene might have been a tad more nail-biting if somebody on the creative team had thought about making the plane, generally an airborne vehicle, actually leave the ground. The acting is simply abysmal across the board, from the extras to some of the main protagonists. The only exceptions are the perfectly-cast Otto Farrant, Stephen Dillane and Toby Jones, all of whom do their best with what the drab, humourless and uninspired script gives them. And the editing is so choppy on occasions, such as Alex and Sabrina's completely unemotional fairwell, where, in mid-hug, they literally leap to opposite sides of the corridor, that you have to wonder whether the director actually watched it through before it aired. Anthony Horowitz, and his acclaimed series, deserves better.

Next series has been set up to be based around Scorpia, another brilliant, memorable book. I really hope we get some pulse-racing, nailbiting excitement in the world of action and espionage, rather than three hours of Tom Harris's media studies adventures and Crawley having a coffee.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting and adrenaline fuelled action

I enjoyed the Alex Rider books so I was pleased to see it has been transformed into a tv series. The first season was very good and an exciting introduction to the world of Alex Rider, I was happy to expect more of the same but IT GOT BETTER! Season two is fantastic fast-paced spy tv but equally really easy to watch a good level of acting and a storyline in keeping with the books plus SEASON THREE IS HAPPENING!

For those moaning about the adverts, I guess it's just because it's been picked up by IMDBTV and to be totally honest to say the adverts run for 4 minutes (as others have suggested) is just a lie. The odd adverts for me were really short (1 minute total max) and they didn't detract at all from the production.

Great show, brilliant second season, I cannot wait for more. Adverts or not.
