A film of its time

Yes it was an acceptable film and in its time it would have been very funny. But as trends etc move forward and so does what is funny.
Overall it was okay.

Disappointing—I expected better

Imagine a handful of middle-aged men, gathered around, stoned. They decide to make a comedy movie. They fill it with their perspective on things like the battle of the sexes, and virginity, and getting stoned, and video games.

That's this movie. It's unapologetically juvenile. What's absolutely lacking is any kind of heart, or insight. They try to be sympathetic to the main character, but they can't because they're too busy sniggering at how drunk women are the best sexual targets for men.

I was really disappointed by this film, and am surprised it was ever a success. But then again, there will be people reading this who don't see this as a negative review, and will add it to their play list.

What's not to like? Silly fun. Carell is brilliant as always. The ending is naff but that's to be expected.
